My Yoga Journey
Tracy Bickley
How my practise of Yoga began?
Introduced by a family friend, my yoga journey began in a large gym in SE London. I went on to drop in and out of yoga classes all over the world (Iyengar, Ashtanga, Sivananda) for the next 15years.
By the time I was pregnant with my first child I was a regular at weekly classes and a daily practice supported what turned out to be an enjoyable pregnancy and kept me focused through a long home birth! I feel that Yoga guided me through the pregnancy, keeping me in tune with my body and baby.
Not long after going back to work I decided that a yoga course of some kind would deepen my daily practice and help me to balance home-work life with the new found challenge’s becoming a mother would bring. I found a teacher training course at Morley College in London. Through the course I worked with teachers who continue to inspire me in my practice. I still take classes with Sophy Hoare, Sandra Sabatini, John Stirk, Diane Long, Ed Fellows and thank them for their continual guidance.
After one year on the course I started to teach yoga to children, which tied in with my drama skills and previous experience as an actress and drama graduate. With another baby boy on the way and a toddler by my side, I started teaching more yoga classes. Introducing yoga into my theatre work was an effortless transition guided by my practice.
The study of yoga never stops. It’s a life long journey that I embrace and each day brings new lessons, brings a greater understanding of myself and makes me feel more content. It has opened many doors and brought in great friendships and experience.
